im 15 and im not allowed to use webcam on msn. i know all about predators and trojans and watever they are called because ive read about people hacking into them but how can they hack into it and look at you on msn? even if i did think they were watching me i can unplug it and thats what i intend to do after i use it. my parents dont undertstand that though. of course im not going to show it to people i dont no and i definetly dont want to use it in chatrooms coz there are so many pervs and gross people but the only people i wuld let use it would be my frends who i no. and anyways people who want to view it have to ask by cliking on it and pervs cant view it coz they have to add my msn email neways! ALL of my frends and i mean ALL of them have webcam and im not allowed to. ii asked why i cant and they wont give reasons. all i want is why!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone who has a brain and is good with computers can hack into another person's computer account and webcam. All you need is some special software and the basics of computers to hack into another person's system. A 15 year old has no business showing off her body or herself to other people over the Internet. You could get raped or get killed if you use a webcam because you have no idea who you are talking to over the Internet. There could be a pedophile who poses as a 14 year old guy and you could be solicited and end up in serious trouble.

I think your parents are right to not let you use the webcam. I was almost hacked on MSN... Luckyly, I wasn't really and I've never used that ID again.
Anyway, you never know. These people are really smart and they could just hack into your cam without you even knowing about it..
I know it's hard, but you have to trust your parents. They know what they are talking about and they only want you to be safe.
Besides, if you want your friends to see you, then go over to their house and hang out with them or something. Get out a bit more and enjoy the summer!

I wouldnt let you either. As a parent, I dont have to explain why. But the answer is to protect you. And you wont understand what that means until you are older and probably have children yourself.
I thought I knew it all when I was 15 too. But trust me, you dont. You can be easily manipulated and the internet is preditor's weapon of choice. "Pervs and Gross People" can be that hot 18 or 19 year old who just wanted to "chat" with you. Then one day you're raped, stuffed into a garbage bag, and dumped off some bridge.
All of your friends with webcams and freedom to explore the super-highway without supervision are prime targets and dont think for one second "it wouldn't happen to you."
Listen to your parents. They're not trying to be jerks.

Probably because a 15 year old doesn't need to be using a webcam. Like you said, there are predators out there that no exactly how to get ahold of you. I'm sure your parents don't want to risk it.
The old excuse "ALL my friends have one" doesn't change anything either. Your parents say no, so just respect that. They are trying to protect you. In my opinion, there's no reason you truly need a webcam. You see your friends in the neighborhood, school, parties... why do you need to see each other sitting on your computer?

I agree with you. I bought a webcam about 3 years ago (i was in 6th grade.) It was fine I just talked with my friend who had one and I treated like a futuristic device like the cellphones you see in future movies where u see the other person when u talk to them. I know that people cannot watch you unless you approve of it. But one day it was gone! I found it in my mom's closet! so I asked her if i could have it back and she just sort of said no/changing the subject. so I asked TODAY can i have it back like 3 times and she said talk 2 ur dad tomorrow cuz he took it up. So i might get it back might not but i agree cuz if u have a microphone it's really cool it's like hanging out with someone. If u want to show someone something u can just hold it up to the camera! So i'm sorry all I can say is u can try to get one and use it when ur parents aren't there.

you need to understand you are still a little girl and you live in their house and since you live in their house you live by their rules . you are a child and shouldnt be on messenger. you cant say you really know the people you are talking to you know what they tell you,. they could all be forty year old men looking at you to jack off. i am an adult and wont use my webcam. they are dangerous. your camera can get hacked and you wouldnt know it . it doesnt always show you the true number of people viewing. your a child trust your parents they know what is best,. the internet is not safe for anyone

Well your parents have only the best intentions for starters. If they don't want you to have one then their is probably a good reason why. Its not that bad that your friends have one and you don't, so just listen to your parents you may think they are not being fair and are mean about a lot of things, i felt the exact same way growing up. Now i have a daughter of my own and now i see they were right on a lot of decisions they made for me. Hope this helps

Sexual predators may be the reason, and are you not watching the news. These people are both sick and crazy. Its their money paying for the camera, the Internet service, and the electricity. Learn that honey, you are a child. Parents do not have to reason or explain things to their children, because their word is final. Deal with it.

Isnt that obvious why? You said it yourself that you know about viruses and predators. They're concerned that you would cause the computer to get a virus or even worse, be a target for a predator.
