I'm turned off when people use "it wasn't meant to be" as an excuse for some failure, or change of heart. As though they weren't responsible for their acts/failures.
As for "it was meant to be" that also bothers me, people MAKE things happen, they don't happen because they were "meant" to! It's just a disempowering phrase, weak.
