I was just watching the news about the death of an extremely corrupt politician, and lots of people giving interviews saying how good he was. He was NOT!! Why people feel the need to do this??
Thank you for your answer! :) Have a wonderful day! :)

Seeing the good in every human being, and being kind to the family is one thing. Giving interviews saying things that are far from the truth of what that person (anyone) was and what he/she did is completely different!

We don't have to. People do it because they haven't the guts and good sense to be honest. Some used to say "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all". There are times for that, perhaps, when no-one and no future action could be influenced by perpetuating untruth (let alone a lie). I think they're rare. Covering for crooks, or fools, just for social niceties, perpetuates the unacceptable, by accepting it. Only harm can come from that - and has. Not for me, Josephine. For me it's credit or debit where due. Gently, perhaps but to hell with bloodless politeness!

Tell me about it!
That happens all of the time...
When people die and are layed out for the viewing, everyone always says how great they were and never anything bad. But some of the people probably always bad mouthed them when they were alive! lol
I think it's just something we do out of habit...b/c maybe people don't want to be haunted by ghosts...lol or they feel guilty for talking about the person when they were alive...Idk...

Have you heard the expression about not speaking ill of the dead.
Its only a passing phase - soon there will be people queuing up to slag him off irrespective of whether he was a git or a saint anyway (see JFK, etc)

undesirable politicians are the only element that there is not any longer something stable to speak approximately, residing or lifeless! right here there are too many and in basic terms even their own kin do no longer dare speaking stable problems with them! the only time human beings, institutions or the media have something stable to declare... below the completed element it reads "Paid merchandising".

Most of us make nice comments for the family's sake. Plus, the dead aren't here to defend themselves. Tradition I guess.

if you saw your vilest enemy dead, would you smile and feel complacent? during the civil war, some generals would attend their adversary's funerals if a general on their side had died. when people pass away, a chthartic feeling washes over us and we start seeing the good because we were too busy focusing on the bad while they were with us.

i guess because they are dead and can't defend themselves. they can't say why they acted the way they did, or explain their side of the story. i suppose when it comes to this...if you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all.

Maybe they owed him a favor and said those things to clear their conscience, or else they just wanted to be on television.
