In the medical world arrogance is a bad thing. You usually see it when a doctor wants something done for a patient that is not the best treatment. A nurse points out that there is a better option. The doc is irate because he is "never wrong" and does the treatment option even though it is not in the best interest of the patient.
That is why as a nurse it is so important to make all good suggestions sound like they were the docs idea.... lol. You must have confidence to work the system in this way I believe. I am confident in my knowledge and ability to advocate for my patient so I am more than willing to put my ego in the back seat for a moment. I think thats what confidence is about. Its about doing whats right and knowing how to work the system to get things done.
Note: That is when you are working with an arrogant doctor though. Most of our doctors are wonderful to work with and understand what it means to be a member of a multidisciplinary health team. Unfortunately there is a bad apple in every bunch though.

Confidence is more internal. It may be evident that a person has confidence - posture, demeanor, tone, etc., but that person does not need to shout it from the rooftops. A confident person generally knows where to draw the line. Arrogance, on the other hand, is more external, a look-at-me sort of behavior that most people would find irritating rather than amusing, but would not be recognized as such by the person in question. An arrogant person often does not believe there is a line that would apply to them.

As a general rule of thumb, the really TRULY confident people don't feel the need to constantly tell others how confident they are. And the ones who DO feel the need to continually talk about how confident or good they are at something (dancing, sports, etc.) are not really as confident as they pretend to be.

Lack of consideration and putting yourself first.also being stuck up and thinking youre better than someone else is another difference between the two.confident people are happy to be just that.arrogant people need to show people how "great" they are.they basically think theyre superior and have more important rights than other people.theyre proud but are very rude about it

True confidence tends to be tempered by increased alertness and earnest effort, while arrogance tends to be more absolute and unthinking.

Apathy, thinking you are the center of the universe and can not fathom that anyone else is of any value. Bad, bad, bad.
