I know im gonna get negative responses but about 2 months ago i stopped taking my vitamins, I took them for the first four months, I am now 6. It doesnt matter what kind they are, even Flintstones, i throw up every time. I eat pretty well, tryingt o get as many veggies and protein as I can and the baby is always good at my appointments, and he moves a lot. do you think this will have any serious affects on my baby?? I mean women had babies before there were vitamins right? I just feel guilty, but I hate throwing them up?

I honestly do eat really well, my husband works late, so I make a healthy dinner every night, and since I work all day I make a nice lunch with fruit and granola bars, I have not had fast food since I have been pregnant, the worst I do is a cup of coffee here and ther eto keep me awake at work

Babies do not need vitamins to survive, they need a well nourished mother. If you are throwing up, you are losing the nutrients from the vitamins and what you have been eating, and increase the chance of dehydration. If your baby is not getting enough nutrients it will start taking them from your body, and you will be able to tell. Look at your fingernails, are they strong, healthy, good color? Is your hair as good as before? Are your teeth fine? If any of this starts to change it is a sign that you are not getting enough nutrients. Keep track of what you eat, and add anything you might be lacking. Dont let people make you feel bad, vitamins are only a mainstay because the average person is living off of Mcdonalds nowadays.

If prenatal vitamins make you sick, then talk to your doctor. Don't just quit taking them. Yes, women had babies before we had vitamins, and babies also often died, or had serious defects. Women had babies long before we knew what we know about how important certain vitamins and nutrients are to a developing fetus. Your baby moving has nothing to do with your baby getting enough vitamins. It's good that you're eating lots of protein and veggies, but that won't do everything you need. You need more than that while you're pregnant. Talk to your doctor about taking new ones, you might have to take an anti-nausea pill with them, or even suffer a bit, but it's NOT a reason to not take them.
*It's really sad that I've gotten 'thumbsed down', and that so many people feel you'll be fine, but I still feel that I'm right. Even with a balanced diet, you need more right now. Coffee (or other decaffeinated drinks) is not bad for you, you can have a few cups a day with no effects. I guess if you feel that you don't need prenatal vitamins, don't worry about it. If you're concerned, talk to your doctor. It all depends on how you feel about it. Good luck~

Not trying to be negative, but here's the deal. Yes, babies have been born since the beginning of time without pre-natal vitamins. I can't think of how this would harm your baby or have negative effects on him.
However, science has given us the opportunities to give our children and ourselves better pre and post-natal care then ever before. Pre-natals are soooo good for you and your baby.
I'm sure it's not easy throwing up vitamins, but I doubt they are the cause of your sickness. Start paying attention to what else could be causing the sickness or what times during the day you are most nauseous and maybe you should try taking your vitamins at that time.

Luckily we live in a world today that has a lot of vitamin enriched foods out there. Although the prenatal vitamins are important, you can obtain most, if not all, of the nutrients through eating right. It is just an added precaution.
If they made you throw up--I would quit taking them too.
Have you tried taking them right before you go to sleep? I had to do that when I was pregnant and taking them.

If you follow Dr. Brewer's diet, you should be fine. One of the biggest concerns is poor diet and if you follow this, you should do fine.
Keep in mind that many women in the US live on fast food and other junk, at least until they get pregnant. Vitamins are to help combat that poor diet. You are already past the point that folic acid is helpful, but you still need iron which you get from meat. Also, consider taking one regular vitamin daily (not prenatals).

I didn't take vitamins last time for the same reason. You are fine, baby is fine! At least you can keep your food down. I only gained 10 lbs and the baby was 7.0 so think what that did to my system. Luckily I'm really healthy so I was fine but ... do what you want!

You should talk to your doctor about it. You do need the vitamins, but if they make you throw up then they aren't doing you much good. My sister had a lot of nausea with her prenatal vitamins and she always took them with food. You also might try a supplement like Ensure to make sure you are getting your daily allowance. But talk with your doctor about it. He may have some better tips or may be able to prescribe you something different.

Dont worry so much about it. I had prenatal vitamins, but rarely remembered to take them. As long as you are eating a well balanced diet. You can also get vitamin enriched foods and drinks. You do need to make sure you are getting enough iron, you need that for all that extra blood. Here is a list of iron rich foods:
liver
lean red meats, including beef, pork, lamb
seafood, such as oysters, clams, tuna, salmon, and shrimp, etc.
beans, including kidney, lima, navy, black, pinto, soy beans, and lentils
iron fortified whole grains, including cereals, breads, rice, and pasta
greens, including collard greens, kale, mustard greens, spinach, and turnip greens
tofu
vegetables, including broccoli, swiss chard, asparagus, parsley, watercress, brussel sprouts
chicken and turkey
blackstrap molasses
nuts
egg yolks
dried fruits, such as raisins, prunes, dates and apricots

Think about it his way...Back in our ancestors time there wasn't any vitamins being taken and everybody was okay.. And there are still people who can't even afford to take viatmins, I know mine were 38 bucks WITH insurance coverage. I am not saying that it is a GOOD thing not to take vitamins, but i know that its not deadly!.....Make sure you eat healthy, and you'll be fine.
