Canadian coinage started on paper in 1850 and the first coins were not struck till 1858. Before that tokens were used that either did not have the word Canada on them or said Upper Canada or Lower Canada. Coins showed up under the French first the earliest was 1670 no others were made until 1717 when tokens started, none had the word Canada on them but had the French king at that time on the (1670). I would need to see the coin. If you can scan it or get a photo of it, let me know and I will send you an email address to send them too. I need to see both sides.
