Our justice system (in the US) is built on the principle that there is a reasonable punishment for any crime, and that the offender will learn from his mistake. Of course, these are rather outdated principles, as they come from over two hundred years ago.
As a police officer, I've had to deal with a few pedophiles, both who have offended and have not. The ones who have offended are a bit easier. Arizona law is actually pretty tough on offenses against children. I've seen them get anywhere from 7 to 15 years. As someone else mentioned, they are rarely "cured" or rehabilitated during this time. The chance of them re-offending is very high.
The ones who have not offended are far more curious. They are tempted, but do not give in. Some may make it through their entire life without committing a crime, others may not.

Absolutely nothing. Thinking about doing something illegal is not punishable under law.
Pedophilia means finding children sexually attractive. That's it. It's like thinking robbing a bank might be a good idea. But you cannot punish someone purely for thinking about committing a crime.
Child molesters, on the other hand, do more than just think about it. They actually commit a crime. And they should be punished very harshly.

It's tricky. Obviously, we'd want the maximum penalty for someone who commits a sex act with a young child. Being jailed and going through therapy has been proven not to change pedophiles attraction to children. They're always going to be attracted to them, so that begs the question..
What causes them to be pedophiles in the first place?
Interesting topic.

It depends on if they are strictly a voyeur or one who takes action A voyeur needs counseling to find out the reasons behind their fixation. Those who act need incarceration and treatment for life. If it is a 18 yr old and a 15 yr old girl or boy Friend that is a whole different question in its self, and up to the state where it occurs

If Paedophiles (spelling guys spelling...try a bit harder) carry out their vile lusts they should be sent away for life where life actually mean life for a change.

My first reaction is the death penalty because to me there is no lower life form than someone that would sexually abuse a child. If they kill a child, they should be put to death. If they just abuse one, then life without parole.
