I helped a person-exgirlfriend with $2,000.00 to make a higher down payment for a car she was getting (I asked for a loan, to help with that), we broke up time after that. She said someday was going to pay. For some months I just got a response "I don't know when I will start paying", to later get no response at all to any of my emails. The other day I was just so tired of the situation that I decided to put an end thinking on taking the case to court. I got a responpse right away from her. She started offering $35.00 a month which I can't take that, I already passed the stage when I was giving the chance to pay any amount per month. The car was $26,000.00 to give an idea of what she buys. I make not a lot more than minimum wage. She is a mom, trying to put the kids in the front to make me feel like a mean person. She says is going to go vacationing to another country, it's stressful to be waiting. What's your oppinion on what would be fair and the right thing to do?

Speak to a representative in a small claims court. Usually though nothing in writing will stand up. If you could finally make physical contact with her, have a typed letter ready for her to sign in front of a notary with something that says she will make payments to you until the amount is paid in full. At least that is better than nothing and will offer some kind of proof of your previous verbal contract if you go to court.

Going on vacation? She has money to pay you back, unless she borrowed vacation money too.

Anyways, you didn't have a written agreement so you are stuck, unfortunately. It would not hold up in court.

Accept the $35.00 per month and take it as a lesson learned. Don't loan any money unless you get an areement in writing, otherwise is look at as a "gift".

You came to the rescue and help her out, now she has to pay. She owes you the money and no i would not wait another minute. Don't feel bad for taking her to court, you helped her out in a situation, and now she has to pay. She and her kids are going on vacation, with the money she owes you, and you should have a problem with that. What kind of friend is that? do what you have to, because she has shown she is not your friend. Go for it, you are not a bad person for collecting your money.

let it go.

If it cost you $2000 to get rid of her, you probably got off cheap, and tying up the issue will weigh you down.

It is a ploy from the back of your mind to reconnect with her.
