Saw and obituary for a high school class mate the other day. Felt smug because he was a pompous son of a biscuit eater then guilty about feeling that way. Any other similar occurrances?

If those are your true feeling don't kick yourself for it. It's not as if he would still be alive just because you liked him. Be yourself with your old and new friends. The last thing you want is for someone to read your obituary and say I never liked her she was fake. We all have to go sometime so make the best of it for you....peace.

I would never feel smug about someone passing, but I understand how some folks could feel that way. I kept in close contact with a few former classmates and attended all of our class reunions. The 10th and 20th really weren't much fun, but the 30th was great. Have since kept in touch with a lot of my former classmates (yes, even the pompous sons of bisquit eaters). As we got older we realized we weren't as different as we thought we were way back then. I'm certain some of my classmates came to a very rude awakening about real life after high school.......just glad my awakening wasn't as bad as some.......

Funny you should ask. There was a kid is school that used to call me names everyday for years. I couldn't stand him. Just a week ago I ran into him (20+ years after school). He came up to me and told me who he was. I made the comment, "yeah you were the person that always called me names".
"yeah, that was me. I was pretty mean" He said.
He never apologized but I could tell he felt guilty. 20+ years later he knows he was a jerk. He introduced his family to me and said he just wanted to stop by and say hi.

I think it shows that people usually don't stay the same person they were in junior high and high school. I'm glad I saw this guy. It was pretty neat.

We all feel that way at times. High school was so long ago (for some of us). When I recognize someone from high school (usually they have to tell me who they are), I have this little smug feeling that they have gotten fat or so old looking and they recognized me right away.
