We had a live aboard neighbor with a child. When the munchkin was old enough to get himself in trouble, a life jacket was required. When he fell in, and he did often, he rolled on his back and usually called for help thru the laughter. Someone would grab him with a boat hook, haul him out, hose him off and all was well with the world. As time past he was like a mountain goat on the boat in all weather. It was, i my opinion a great way to grow up. Your child will gain a maturity not found in his peers from the added demands of living aboard. He will learn to conserve what he has and not to crave every new gadget that there is no room for. Go for it.

Marinas have too many other boats. My boat goes near no other boats. I much prefer a "slip"
