I need to buy tubing to replace my brake lines on my truck this weekend on the way home but I'm not sure if it's 1/4 or 3/16. It's the line that runs the length of the body to the back brakes. 1994 F-150

It's 3/16 & buy the flare nuts as well. You'll need a double flare tool. There is a joiner on the frame at the back of the cab. Buy at least 7' of tubing.

The size is the outside diameter of the tubing. get a 1/4 open end wrench and see if it exactly fits around the line. If it does, it's 1/4. If it's smaller line, it's prob 3/16. Measure the length of the line including any bends and buy a line from the parts store. Then just bend it to fit and put it back in the fasteners. Simple stuff. Be sure to bleed, but that goes without saying. Disconnect the battery and slightly depress the brake pedal with a piece of pipe or something to keep the master down, that way the fluid won't all run out of the reservoir and get air in your master cylinder.

The pre-formed with fittings replacements are available from your parts store or the dealer. I do this all the time.
