I personally think the labels are thwarting progress in our government. What do you get out of being a Dem or Con? Do you ever take the other side seriously? Have you ever heard a plan from the opposing party and said, "Not a bad idea.." or do you write them off because they aren't a member of your party?
Thanks.

I meant Dem or Repub...On average, the vast majority of people considered "liberal" are Democrat and the majority of people considered "conservative" are Republicans. That's what I was saying..

First, Democrat and Republican are names of political parties. You are part of a party because you officially join that party. Your choice to join or not join.
Second, liberal and conservative are political philosophies, not political parties. You are liberal or conservative based on your own personal political beliefs.
Third, all liberals are not democrats and all conservatives are not republicans.
I am generally conservative, but I am open minded and vote for the person not the party. In the last election cycle, I voted for a Democrat for House of Representatives and a Republican for Senator because they were the best people for the jobs. I respect the ideals of both parties, and am willing to listen to people of all opinions. The only people I would ever write off are people who are rude or disrespectful regardless of their party or philosophy.
Edit: I am not a democrat or a republican because I agree with certain parts of each. I am generally conservative but open minded and listen to everyone. That's what comes from growing up with a liberal mom and a conservative dad! ;-)

Our own stupidity! Elections come and go, but the issues stay the same, and for the most part so do those in power. Why solve the problems of the nation when you only lose an issue to solidify your base with? How many of our major issues have are used in each election and still have not been dealt with? If they actually try and tackle a problem, WHOAAAA, thank goodness the other party is there to kill it before the public starts to expect them to what they were voted in to do. I can't wait till someone runs on the issue of term limits, I'll vote for him/her. There are great plans on both sides of the aisle, however what is missing is the lack of will to actually implement them.

I took this cheap online test to find out if you are more liberal or conservative. I don't remember the site, but my results were 60% liberal and 40% conservative. I agree with it. Without having taken the test I probably would have determined the same. Regarding major issues, I'm pro-gay, pro-abortion, but I hate Political Correctness and Affirmative Action and I think we need stricter immigration laws.

Firstly, as I not American, when I say I am republican it has nothing to do with the US right wing political party. It simply means I believe in republics and not monarchies etc.
Secondly, on the UK political front the only party that would get my vote would be the Monster Raving Loony Party. Seriously.

The words have lost their meaning...
It depends on who your talking to..its subjective.
If I disagree with a Democrat, then I must be conservative....If I disagree with a Republican then I must be liberal...according to them.
In reality i'm neither.....
I'm mixed on several issues...nothing is black and white.
But since the line has been drawn in the sand by those with their heads stuck in it.....I will be ostricized by either party for standing in the middle.
So I guess i'm a liberal republican leaning conservative democrat fence sitter.. ??..lol

I am registered as a republican, but I will vote for a democrat if he is conservative. I am losing faith in the Republicans, though. Look who the fore-runner is; Gulliani...a pro-abortion, anti-gun liberal posing as a conservative. And alot of the republicans are pro illegal immigration.

I have strong conservative values, but am actually considering registering as a independent. There just isn't much difference in the Rep or Dem parties these days.
The two-party system needs to be eliminated....

To be honest nothing makes me Rep or Dem. To me those are words to describe followers. I'm a free thinker. When you hear people say I'm a proud Dem or a proud Rep all they are saying is I can't think for myself.

I've never heard a good idea from the other side. Our philosophies are totally different. I'm a libertarian. I want rid of the government they way they are today.
