I bought a pair of bettas and after a few minutes i found out that the make was dead but the female wasn't isn't it supposed to be the other way??

Males and females can't be housed together unless they've been conditioned for breeding, and then they need to be separated once the eggs have been laid.
If either of the pair wants to breed and the other is unwilling, it is likely to be injured or killed. And a female is just as capable of killing a male as it is the other way around.

No, what is supposed to happen is, you are supposed to research fish before you buy so you would know that when kept in small spaces, the female almost always kills the male. To keep a pair together, it SHOULD be temporary (for breeding) and SHOULD be in a large tank with plenty of cover.

Fish are complicated animals. Unlike dogs or cats, their ages are not obvious to us when we buy them. We never know how many years they've been passed pet store to pet store.
It could be caused by anything. Just take special care to check all of your water levels (ph, amonia, etc.) before adding another fish. Ph inbalance is one of the main reasons that fish die, because new aquariums are often inbalanced.

Betas can't live together in the same tank or fish bowl as far as I've read. The female was just stronger and probably killed your male.

Could have just been an old age thing.Remember to check the water and take back the betta to the store if you still have the reciept.
