that all used to be at our location. We've been there a year and for a time I would write on the address "not at this address" and return it. What am I legally supposed to do with this mail? You can tell most of it is junk mail but some is not. What is the rules/laws regarding mail coming to your address with some one else's name on it? Apparently they did not do a change of address when they moved!

Go to your local post office and speak with the local head inspector. That SHOULD take care of it. As to what to throw away, junk mail is fine BUT - all others IS NOT. That is tampering with someone else's mail whether you have legal "possession" of the premises or not!

Either continue the "not at this address" or take it to the post office.

I started having the same problem about 6 months after we bought this house. Seems the post office doesn't forward mail to previous owners after 6 months, so they just deliver anything with our address to our mailbox. I called them about it and it stopped for a while, but has started again so I just toss the stuff that looks like junk and put the rest back in the mailbox with the flag up and a note to the postman.

Mail will continue to come for several years no matter what you do. It's practically impossible to remove every bad name from every mailing list that is bought and sold around the country.

So long as you keep writing "no such party at this address" or something like that, and putting them back in your mailbox, you will be on safe ground and eventually the flood will peter down to a trickle.

I have had the same problem. . . . Went to the local Post office with the complaint, made out a new change of address card (again) after a year, still received the same mail.

Went back to the post office, they suggested I just toss it.

That was all they could do, so that's what I've been doing for 2 years.

good luck

Keep up with "Return to sender, addressee not at this location". Then go to the post office and make a request that only people to receive mail at this residence are "first last name" and make a list.

I have gone to the post office and told them if the envelope does not have my name or my husband's name on it, don't send it. It works.

throw it in the trash. but a note in your mailbox indicating what names should be on the mail that goes in your mailbox so you dont get it anymore. The post office has a little form that does in the mailbox. if the mail has a different name, you wont get it.

I would write "No such person" on the envelope. If it keeps persisting, you need to go to your local post office and make them aware of the situation.

Legally you can do what you like; you've completed the paperwork to "take posession" of the address.

Courtesy usually puts anything not "junk" back in the box with a "Not at this addy" note.
