They do have the 1997 318ti in Techno Violet (BMW paint code 299).

There were 2 BMW factory Violets. Daytona Violet and Techno Violet. I'm not sure if the ti was offered with either in 97 but there are always BMW individual cars. Check under the hood on the drivers side strut mount sticker for the color code and name.

just go for a 318is...
