My husband and I just bought a house. The backyard after about 12 feet is a forrest! I cant tell you the amount of noise outside at dark it is HORRID! I HATE BUGS especially mosquitos!!!!! I want to buy something that will kill 3/4 to all of them in the yard. I dont want my dog to bring in fleas or ticks and I definetely want to be able to enjoy my deck without getting killed by mosquitos. I also, need to make sure that whatever it is I treat my lawn with, will not harm my dog.

I hate to say this, but do you really think you can get rid of all the bugs?. I know how you feel because the mosquitoes are horrible this year, but that spray is poison and can harm your dog if he/she eats some of the grass it lands on or gets on his/her toy. If you spray for mosquitoes then I suggest you only spray the wooded area. As for the other insects, most are probably beneficials and anytime you try to kill bugs you will be killing the beneficials as well. My only other suggestion is to try and learn to live with the bugs and the noise. I'll bet that if you just sit and listen some night that you will come to enjoy all the chirping and clicking. I'm sure this didn't help too much, but at least it is something to think about. Good luck

Sounds like you moved into the wrong house, Shannon. There's just no way you are going to kill all of the bugs in the forest..

You can apply sevin or triazicide to your lawn to deal with ticks and fleas (temporarily). The poison generally doesn't bother dogs after a certain period of time (read the label instructions!!)

Sorry. Consider having a screened enclosure added to your house to enjoy your deck..

You can try Diatomaceous Earth (DE). It's FDA Food Grade, safe to be licked, cost-effective, a little goes a long way, non-toxic to pets and kids. What it is is fossilized remains of microscopic one-celled plants called Diatoms. Bugs such as fleas and ticks do not have blood vessels, only a body cavity which contains their bodily fluids. DE causes them to dehydrate and die. The waxy coating found on many insects is also absorbed by DE. In addition, the microscopic, razor-sharp mineral composition of DE pierces the waxy coating. I've used it for the ants in my yard and the ticks on my dog and after 3 days I don't have them getting in the house anymore. The ant hole is vacant now, too.

A mosquito magnet do a great job to get the mosquitoes. We have wet woods behind our house. Last year we could not use our backyard. We got one in June and now it's almost bug free!!

I know we don't like mosquitoes, but the larvae and the grown ups are a big part of the food chain. Too bad we couldn't figure out a way to render them harmless other than killing them off.
