Integrity. Resolve. Principles. Charisma. Recognition that he/she is there to represent the will of the majority. An inclination towards Fair, Open-minded and Inclusive policies. Confidence. Not paranoid. Maverick - preparedness to challenge the status quo.

Well spoken, Honest, and straight forward. A good administrative manager. The president is primarily a figurehead and administrative head. He has no power in our government other than his public support. He has no control over laws, budget, going to war, etc. He can only sway congress if charismatic enough.

IMHO a president should, ideally, be the cream of the crop, one of the best among us: he/she should be exceptionally sharp intellectually, a workaholic, possess exceptional people skills, humility, the ability to differentiate between things that work and things that don't, and not be in the pockets of any special interest groups whatsoever, be they corporations or lobbyists.

With those 3 things not only would they usually make the right decision, but they would have the ability to listen to other people and admit when they had made a mistake.

Be true to the people, dont think we cant take bad news, be transparent with your government and encourage people to work together across politcal parties being partisan on issues just gets everyone stuck in one place. Obama 08'

Basic grasp of how the world works, in respect of the areas in which the President makes or highly influences policy - - - economics (budget and tax policy), law (judicial appointments), military / diplomatic (war / state dept).

An impecable track record of running a super large, international corporation at a reasonable salary (not super CEO salaries). First it shows that they have appropriate managerial skills, know international laws and diplomacy and isn't out to suck their company dry by accepting an inflated salary.
