Good question.
we live in a small town just one bad muffler in the neighbor hood(usually belonging to a teen thinking its cool) is really a nuisance and irritates the older folks or people with babies napping but 2 bad mufflers will get the cops out lol
but bikers usually like to make their noise on the highway or upon starting or stopping.I am not defending one way or the other its all annoying and the public will decide when they call the cops. The cops notice what the public tolerates and respond accordingly.

It may seem that way but noise is noise and one can get a ticket from either car or motorcycle.

Motorcycles can still get tickets, however, partly why the law is extended for them is because people don't pay attention to motorcycles. If they were not as loud as they are, there would be more accidents.

Its called double standards , just like pickup trucks can be loud or way illegally raised up . Even most muscle cars just idling are louder than most import exhausts . It must be the tone cause a weed whacker noise is slightly more annoying than a low grumble . And you dont really know if the biker or hillbilly has ever actually recieved tickets , do you ?

I agree, they are most definitley louder than modified cars...I saw on tv, you could get a "noise pollution" ticket for reving and having a loud exhaust, but not the motorcycles...
