You will need a boot cd with XP.
Linux is a wierd animal, you need to by pass the linux loader that grabs all input at startup, one way is to go into bios and set the cd/dvd as the first startup device.
Once you have it set and when you start the computer pay close attention, you may have to press a key to get to the boot loader of the cd.
Then go throught the setup process, when you get to the page where the setup askes for a drive to install the OS, look at the bottom of the page, select delete, you will have to highlight each drive partition and delete them individually.
I have written some articles about patitioning and installing XP for my web site, have a look....

Put the Windows XP installation in the CD drive and reboot.
Boot to the CD drive and follow the installation steps. Windows will set the partition and format the drive and then install XP.

Don't you hate it when well-intentioned friends screw you up like that?
You're going to have to reformat the drive and insert your Windows XP install (or recovery) disk. The Windows installer will offer to reformat for you. If you don't have a disk... you're out of luck.
My question is: Why did you let your friend change your computer in the first place?

Something does'nt sound right here..I would have thought is go to add/remove first and uninstall anything to do with Linux then open up programmes and delete anything to do with Linux then put your XP CD in the drive and format.

First you will have to format the HDD by booting from Win XP bootable CD/DVD but advisable is third party formatting software & than boot from bootable XP CD & install.
