Even now, I sometimes get ie and ei mixed up in words, and le and el as a suffix. Thank goodness for spell checkers!

I've always been a fantastic speller. For some reason, though, the simple word "guard" often trips me up. I always have to pause and spell it both ways mentally before committing myself to the correct spelling on paper. I'm not entirely sure why this one word has tormented me since elementary school...but oh well! C'est la vie!

This isn't really a spelling problem, but I'm never sure whether to use affect or effect. If anyone has a good trick for remembering which word is appropriate, I'd love to hear it!

As a teacher, I try to make up ways of remembering things for the kids...
Desert has 1 s (like sand), while dessert has 2 (like strawberries)
I before E, except after C, except when it sounds like A, as in neighbour or weigh.
The location words all have 'here' in them: here, there, where.

Things like that. Find a way that helps you to remember the words you can't spell...

I always have trouble with "tomorrow".... I always want to put an extra "m" in it..... I was mortified when my six year old son spelt it correctly when we were practising his spellings and I got it wrong....

I think manoeuvre is incredibly difficult to spell. I just had to look it up then, to make sure.
