It's not the monitor, the graphics card outputs the resolution so the monitor only displays what the graphics card outputs. If the graphics card outputs 800x600, this is what is displayed, but changing the resolution simply changes the output from the graphics card, nothing to do with the monitor itself.

Hi, if the monitor is plu n play, then the monitor will auto adjust to the output siganl of the graphics card, normally you will set this to your comfort of needs. ideal is 1024x768 but any will do!. If you have a newish monitor say like a tft (thin screen) if you hit the ok / suto button, you will manually tell the tft to check to see if its the best resolution for your pc. if you have the CRT version, like a tv, then you can manually adjust using the buttons on the monitor in menus. good luck
