water is an acid, also suger becomes clear if saturated enough with almost any clear liquid... Plus water moves a constant rate even in a glass. so its like acid bombarding the cube tearing it apart with the friction of motion

Because sugar is very polar, it is quite soluble in water. The water molecules surround the individual sugar molecules and pull them away from the rest of the solid, dissolving them in the water.
