childline are going to open the helpline to children disturbed by the last harry potter book...

sorry it is about the contents..
children will be distraught if one of the characters is killed.....
if i remember correctly in ireland only one in five calls made to childline are answered due to shortage in volunteers. but yet they can bring in extra for this book!! i dont know!

shadow kat, im makin the point that they are able to get extra help for the launch of a book, but many children who ring up on a normal day because they are being abused etc dont get through because of a lsck of volunteers.
i am all for childrens welfare and work in this area but i think that if children dont understand that the book is fictional then they are too young to read it! its for parents to decide wheter the book is suitable or not!
and im not an old hag, i bet im younger than you! watch your mouth!

If child line can squander recourse's on rubbish like this then they obviously don't need donations for real children who need real help. The Charity commission should step in and refuse permission for charitable funds to be wasted on this. If book disturbs children then the parents should sue the publishers for the help their kids need. They have made enough to cover every child in Britain getting counselling.

And just why is it a bad thing for a person, any person to have someone to talk to if they need it. Plus it could open the child to conversations on feelings toward other things on life.
Keep in mind that most readers have known these characters for years and just like some people feel remorse over a movie or TV characters death they might be sensitive enough to feel it over a book. DEATH IS A HARD SUBJECT NO MATTER WHAT MEDIA IS USED!
To a person somewhere above with the comment about them only being children.... um so? wtf does that mean? that children have no feeling because of their age? Just because you might be a locked up old hag does not mean children do not have feelings.
I do not have to watch my mouth, If you could READ you would notice I was referring to a answer above, so I did not call you a hag, I don't give a damn about you or what you care about. I am saying it is a VALID reason to open more lines and more power to the organization for doing so.
As for not having volunteers well the community should be blamed not the organization

Isn't that crazy??? And here I thought the good old US was the top contender for really, really stupid stuff. I mean, our Government just upped the reward (doubled it in fact), for information leading to the capture of Osama bin Laden. Heck, why not- the 25 million got SO many results, lets toss another 25 mil. into the hopper. The American citizens can afford it, right? Well, at least it's money NOT being spent on Bush's b/u/l/l/s/h/i/t (excuse the language) war.
I remember, back in the misty past when I was a child, that s/h/i/t happens (as the bumper sticker says). I mean, NO one wanted to see Old Yeller get shot, or Charlotte die (in Charlotte's Web), etc., etc., etc., but back then you just had to suck-it-up and get on with life. Didn't leave any psychological scars that I'm aware of. Sorry about the 'rant'. Have a great weekend!

I agree with john m. I was brought up with Romeo and Juliet. She died in the end but I have never cut my wrists over it! Kids today know too much, too soon and will read anything into any film, play or TV series. I personally, think they should bring back Bill and Ben, Andy Pandy, Jackernory and whatever programme was suitable for 'a child'. I hate what this world is dishing out to children (especially for my grandchildren).

I love Harry Potter books. As to the world, I think it's gone crazy. I think at this point and time we're in big trouble if something doesn't give. Our once powerful and beautiful country is going down hill really fast. We need someone in office who cares about us,ecology, and the world at large. War is not the way. It's the government doing war, not the regular people. I think if all the people of the world got together and said enough is enough it would be a better place for all of us to live in.

That's ignorant!!
Who flipped out because the evil witch on 'The wizard of oz' died? Who needed immediate help because 'Bambie's mom bit the dust.
I'm sorry, but kids know this is make-believe, people under estimate them.

That is one of the most pathetic things I have heard in some time.
The neurotic kids of today need to get a grip of themselves and toughen up.
