It is going to depend on who did the rebuilding. Some re-builders will replace anything that is even close to marginal, some only replace the parts that are really bad. The major private companies that do assembly line rebuilds are less likely to replace something than is the private shop where the guy rebuilding the transmission is also doing the installation. He does not want to pull it out and install it again!!

A factory (from the dealer) rebuilt is usually the same as a new one.

Depending on the car, a rebuilt or used transmission is the way to go. The cost of a brand new one is not worth it unless the car almost new.

I just got my transmission rebuilt on my Mercedes Benz. I had problems with it the first week. I took it back to the "Certified transmission mechanic" and they did it right the second time around.

I strongly recommend that you deal with a certified reputable mechanic for anything that's being rebuilt. They should also give you a warranty in the event the part fails in the first 12 months. I paid once and not twice.

depends what type of transmission it is. There's more to automatic transmissions and could cost more to rebuild than the cost of a new one. Manual transmissions are a little more straightforward and are easier to rebuild and would cost about half that of a new one

Best if you bought a used one. You can get a low mile transmission for a fraction of the price. Only thing a rebuilt tranny is one that was broke and was fixed

Yes it seems any tranny ive had rebuilt doesnt hold up and the problem comes back . A lot varies on the type of car and type of transmission , but 75% case is you should replace with new/used tranny and not rebuild .

It really depends on the trans. If you have a stick shift it would be a lot easier and cheaper to rebuild. In the long run it is all ways better to buy and install a new trans, but used trans with low mileage are good too. Plus they will cost a lot less than a new one. It really depends also on how much you are willing to drop into your car. Is it worth it?
