God states in Revelations 22:14-15 "Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood."

Of course they can. It's a fictitious story.

Every movie is falsehood as well as every fiction book. This would mean that noone should love reading any book of fiction or watch any movie.
I really dont know what the big deal is when it comes to Harry Potter books & movies. From a child I grew up on Enid Blyton & what books have more magic & witchcraft than Enid Blyton. Goblins, gnomes, fairies, pixies, flying chairs, enchanted trees, etc.
In this world u will be faced with many things of evil. You will not know all when they come to you. If your faith is strong u can go anywhere, watch anything or read anything & u neednt bother. If u are weak u will be continually running from things.
My advice is to strengthen your faith & see Harry Potter as what it really is. Books & movies of fiction to be enjoyed.

Here is a question, who did Jesus hang out with all the time? Did he hang out with best of the best all the time? I don't think so. He hung out with the worst of the worst.

I believe Harry Potter is a great series, it makes kids want to read and gives them something to do. But as a person who believe in Jesus and for me to believe that someone died for my sins, I do not think a book series can justify that at all.

I believe many Christians love Harry Potter but they know fiction vs non-fiction.

Well, the people don't believe in it. They don't worship Harry or believe that magical power lies within us. People realize that this is all make-believe and that is what make reading Harry Potter okay. We believe in God, but Harry is just a story. If this were a religious type of thing where you had to choose, either Harry or God, Harry Potter would be a horrible sin. This is not the case however, so it's perfectly within your faith to enjoy the fictional adventures of a boy wizard, so long as you recognize your religion comes first.

The bible also talks about a number of other things which are neither true or reasonable in the old testament. Of course it's fine. Magic doesn't really exist anyway so reading about a fictional story is fine - and either way since it doesn't exist you can't really practice magic arts. You can TRY to practice it but it still won't be considered practicing it.

I think it is okay for all to read these books - but I do need to ask: Should christians keep an open mind about magic as portrayed in childrens' fantasy books such as Harrry Potter in the 21st century? Or should they, like the Muslims, stay rooted in the Middle Ages, burning witches and any books they and their church consider "heretical?"

Well, I suppose you'd have an argument if in fact Harry Potter was a living, breathing wizard but, alas ,he is not. Relax . Just enjoy a well written series of books from a talented writer.

It's fantacy.

That verse said: those who PRACTICE magic arts.

By reading a book, you are not practicing anything! It's when you physically become engaged in the magical arts in it that it becomes wrong. (My wife used to be a witch (and she could see the past/future - very accurately), and we know first hand the difference)

I think reading a book is just fine, and I let my daughter read them/watch them. Again, I think it depends on your personal conviction.

If you are convinced that it is wrong, then to you it a sin to read this book! Everybody has their own convictions - you need to follow what you are being told.

Harry Potter is a FANTASY. that means it is NOT TRUE. so it shouldn't hurt anyone of any religion to read it. it is FOR FUN. it is not satanic in any way, unless you count perhaps the mindless obsessiveness it has created. the story itself is completely harmless. you have to be a master of your own mind.
