Do you find yourself a little turned-off if someone who's not a native English speaker talks to you without that American twang? (totally different accent)

no ,i find it kind of amusing ,i was helping a family from japan
on vacation and in there broken english ,but enough to hold a conversation with them the father asked me (and this is word for word )"where we find american cheese burger"?
and i told him "there,s a wendy,s just up the street about a block from here" (and this was in a parking garage and we walked up to the street and i pointed to the south )and he said "wrendy,s" and i smiled and said "right wrendy,s " and he bowed and told every where it was and they walked to
wrendy,s (wendy,s ).

No... Im actually impressed. It would be unrealistic to expect non native speakers from other countries to sound jusy like a native speaker... Particularly If the person grew up outside the US. I would certainly never be able to sound like a Philippino even if i studied Tagolog all my life and had the grammer and vocabulary mastered. You would always know that I was foriegn. I'm kust happy when others make te effort to speak English... no matter how thick the accent.

That's the funny thing about all native language...the person speaking it swears they have no accent at all! Personally, I love different accents and try my best to catch all the nuances so I can mimic them. The other funny thing is, most people are terrible at mimicing other accents and you can usually tell if they are faking the accent. One guy who is great at it is Hugh Laurie (Dr House from TV). He does a perfect American accent...truly flawless. If you didn't know he was British, you'd never guess it from the show!

The only accent that turns me off is the southern hillbilly twang. Everything else is actually pretty cool. I thought this one girl I was talking to in Paris was actually pretty cute using her French laced broken English.

Good luck

No, actually I enjoy accents as long as they are not so thick I can't understand them, or they talk so fast as to be incomprehensible. I had a friend in Boulder Creek, a really close friend, who had a thick accent, and I could never get her to remember to talk slowly enough that I could separate one word from the next. I can generally understand if I can tell where the spaces are.

Personally, a person who talks pretty much like the announcers on TV bores me in comparison.

No, I enjoy meeting people from different countries and learning about their culture and language but what turns me off is the vast number of people from other countries who immigrate here with intentions of staying and refuse to learn the language even a little. Sometimes when I do my household shopping I only recognize the name of the product because there are so many different languages on the package. The worst is that their children start to school and can't speak English either so we have to develop special programs for them that utilize dollars from school budgets that should go toward school and circular improvements. I have no problem with accents or anyone's desire to maintain their roots in their culture but if your desire is to live in this country please learn to speak English.

Heck no ... actually find it more of a turn ON ..... Variety is a good thing, so hearing or seeing someone a little different than the norm you have daily is usually very sexy

On the contrary, I'm impressed that they can speak my language well enough for me to understand them. Plus, accents are interesting.
