I participate in Pride events to break the stereotypes about the GLBT community. I want str8 people to see there are gay men that look and act just like them.
I think it is important to show everyone "the boy next door" just might be gay and there is absolutely nothing wrong with him.

zeke58: Pride is more about showing you are not ashamed of who you are. I think when you look at it that way it will make more sense to you.

I'm against it in the sense that i oppose white pride, black pride, eskimo pride, etc... It's certainly nothing to be embarrassed of, but I also don't believe it's something to be proud of either as that I don't believe that sexuality is a choice and thus not an accomplishment. And that's not the same as being proud of being in a LGBT organization; organizations do things which there's plenty of potential to be proud of. Sexual preference is a state of being which can't be right or wrong without a choice involved.

I am not against Gay Pride. Being straight myself, I go to the Pride Parades, because it is fun (plus I love Parades). However, I am starting to wonder what would happen if someone started a Straight Pride Parade? Would it be like a white power meeting?

I am proud, because despite all the ignorance, misconception, ridicule and unfair state of things, despite people's bigotry, despite the fact that I am treated differently as soon as someone finds out my sexuality, despite the fact that my family degrades homosexuality in front of me, suspecting that I might be one of them, despite the fact that I live in fear of people embarassing me in the street, passing judgement, even assaulting my partners, despite the fact that I have arrogant men tell me all the time, that they could 'put me back on the straight and narrow'.
Despite all these difficulties, i have still chosen to be open about my sexuality, and have no shame for the fact i like women, even though OTHERS TELL ME I SHOULD everyday on this site. My self and everyone here, has pride. Because through all the times people have told us we are wrong, and in some cases disturbed or ill, we have held our own, and remained true to ourselves. That is a huge accomplishment.

I'm not against pride in ones self on a personal level, but I do believe that having the lowest common denominator of the G/B/L community parade around like a bunch of idiots just to draw attention to themselves does nothing to enhance the respect we receive from others or further our social standing in this country.

There's no point in being against someone with pride in themselves. If their proud to be gay, then more power to them.

Mr jello, or whatever your name is.. Being a lesbian, bisexual or gay person has NOTHING to do with having sex, so you are flaws when you say that we are proud because of the people we have sex with. We are proud because we can stand up for our rights and we are proud because we are HUMAN just like straights are.
And no, I'm obviously not against it.

No I'm not against gay pride. I just don't agree with flaunting it, the way the gays do in their parades. All people should be proud of themselves and their lifestyle, if not they should change. Pride should make people stand a bit taller, not dress like the opposite sex and ridicule themselves in public.
