I didn't like my name because it's all soft and fuddy-duddy, and it doesn't mean anything more interesting than "woman" (from Aramaic). On the other hand, it's a decent, recognizable name amongst Christians, Jews and Muslims alike. But many people have trouble pronouncing it anyway. And also because my name is so plain and simple, I have no nickname.

When I was 3, I wanted to be called Mark, because "Mark barks". A whimsy, didn't catch on. Who takes a 3-year-old seriously?

I now kind of like the name Scheherzade (from the 1001 Arabian Nights), with a cool nickname like "Shazza".

I hate my name with a passion. I was named after my dad's grandmother and my mother's mother (neither of whom I've ever had the pleasure of meeting b/c they both died long before my birth).
So, my first name is Eleanor...I'll spare you my middle name b/c it's just that bad.
My mother made the fatal mistake of telling me that I was going to be named Sarah Elizabeth or Hope Anne. Both are normal, nice names. They preferred to give me granny names for some reason. I tell you!
:-(

No, I don't like my name and yes, I picked another:) I never tell my real name to anyone on the world wide web. I hate it that badly. I like the name Avalon because it sounds classic, has an aristocratic ring to it, it's of Celtic origin, it's from Arthurian legends and it can be shortened to a cute nickname--Avie.

I consider myself privileged to have my name.

My mom had a best friend when she was a girl, and they decided when they grew up they were going to marry men who were brothers.

They did grow up, but went their separate ways. My mom moved to California and her best friend got married back East. After about a year my mom decided to move home and this best friend set my mom up on a blind date with her brother-in-law (brother of her husband) - my father.

My mom had two miscarriages before she got pregnant with me, and even though it had been found to be dangerous, she insisted on taking DES to carry me to full term. She was 32, and knew she wasn't going to have any more after me. (This was long ago enough that having a baby after 35 was very risky).

When the nurse brought me into the room for my mother to see me, she called me her miracle baby.

My first name is the best friend's name. My middle name is my mother's name. My mom died in '74, and my dad died last month. My mom lives on in my aunt's memories, and their friendship lives on in my very name.

As far as names go, I'm the most blessed person I know.

I like my first name, but my last name is the same as a woman's first name. Everyone thinks that it's so funny to say "You have two first names!". Like I haven't heard that a thousand times. And when someone asks me for my last name and I tell them, many times I'll hear "NO, your last name." I think I know my own last name dimwit!

I really don't like my name, it doesn't suit me at all, but I never could think of a name to give myself. But I can say I would like something rather short, three or four letters, and not too girly.
