I have a craftsman 22" push mower that is giving me some trouble. I hit a huge rock and the mower shut down on me like it is supposed to do. I went and replaced the broken keyway with a new one because it was pretty obvious that it was broken. After I put everything back togeather it will not start. I also replaced the old spark plug with a brand new one.
Someone told me that the mower is out of time----So how do I get it back into time. I think that may be the problem but I am not 100% sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated as my grass is growing by the second.

What key did you replace? There are two, one on the blade adaptor and one in the flywheel. The key in the flywheel should be the first one to break, it is made of soft metal and designed to prevent the crankshaft from breaking when the blade hits something. Remove the cowling from the engine, remove the nut holding the flywheel and see if the keyway grooves are lined up. If not remove the flywheel and replace the key. That is the only way the engine can get out of "time".

You may need a puller to remove the flywheel. You might be able to get one from autozone. The briggs engines have three bolt holes in the flywheel for the puller. Tecumcehs don't.

if you have a newer mower ,with stop cable .tie handle in place, now follow the cable .where it connects ,pulls the lever.pull little further so the shut off wire does not connect.

Sears will assist you on this issue better than I, but if not out of warranty, they will come and repair it for you. You need to ask since you took it apart, though.

if you can pour a small amount of gas into the carburator (you may have to take a few peices off) that might help to get it goin again. also, check your oil level.
