Why do some women choose to have this? Does it make you loose weight faster, also does it reduce stretch marks? Can anyone have it if they wanted?

It cost a lot of money...some hospitals won't do one unless it's medically necessary...Women choose to have one so they can decide when the baby will be delivered, saves on labor pain..it doesn't reduce stretch marks, they are already there, and so is the weight...
My daughter had one because the baby was breech,,,but it's still not natural...

A C-Section is major abdominal surgery with a 6 week recovery time. It doesn't do anything for stretch marks - they happen before birth. It doesn't make you lose weight faster - you can't work out as soon after birth.
Most women who choose it, have a reason like a previous c-section, baby way overdue, mom too small to deliver a large baby, a risk factor of some kind for the baby or mom.
It depends on your doctor whether or not you can just choose to have one, but there's a lot more risk and recovery with the c-section.

I didn't chose to have a c-section, but I have had 2 and this baby I am pregnant with now will be a c-section delivery. I physically cannot have children "naturally". There are a slim percentage of women whose pelvic bone cannot allow a baby through and I am in that percentage. With my first child I was in hard labor at the hospital for 23 hours and I pushed and pushed trying to get her out for almost 3 hours straight. Then the doctor told me that I wasn't going to be able to do it and I had an emergency c-section. With my 2nd child, I found out that it was because of my bone structor down there and so the doctor scheduled me a c-section a week before my due date so I wouldnt have to do that again.
It doesnt make you lose weight faster, the recovery period is longer and more painful, and it doesnt reduce stretch marks. I really hope this helps someone!

I had an emergency c-section, and would of course much have preferred to delivery naturally. Recovery was painful and long, and I ended up with a chronic infection to boot. The women who did have regular births were up and at'em - and some went home the next day, happy and perky.
Unless there is a medical reason, it's rare that you can have an elective c-section. It doesn't make you lose weight, and of course has nothing to do with stretch marks - that's from the weight you put on during the pregnancy.

Alot of women choose to have a c-section to skip out of having a baby natural. I had a c-section with my son and I did not want one. I did not have any stretch marks throughout my pregnancy until i woke up from the c-section. My son was breeched so they had no choice but to deliver him that way. No it doesn't help you lose weight faster. If you have alot of money than you can have it. Also I get to have the baby that I am having now, which is my second pregnancy, natural.

I chose to have one because the baby was big and the Dr told me all the risks of delivering a big baby. My sister had her first baby die because he got stuck and by the time they did an emergency c-section it was too late. I was not willing to risk it. It does not make you loose weight faster and doesn't reduce stretch marks. I am scheduled for another c-section on August 1st, but only because my Dr won't do a VBAC.

I had a cesarean with my daughter because she was breech. Since I've already had one, I have the option this time. I believe you can chose to have one with your first pregnancy, but you need to find out what your insurance will cover.

I chose to have another cesarean mainly because every woman that I have talked to that has had both cesarean and vaginal deliveries said they prefer the cesarean. The recover was longer, but easier. Well, I don't have anything to compare it to, but I thought the recovery of my cesarean was very easy.

Also, my daughter was over 9 lbs. and I've got gestational diabetes again, so I know my son will probably be just as big, if not bigger. I never experienced any contractions or labor with my daughter, so I decided I don't really want to. I know that probably sounds wimpy, but believe me I have a good tollerance for pain. I just feel that I've taken very good care of my body and baby through both my pregnancies, so that's the important part - not how you give birth. I also want to feel good after delivery so I can enjoy my babies.

Stretch marks occur during pregnancy, so how you deliver will not effect whether you get them or not. They are hereditary, so although creams help - they won't prevent them 100%. Watching your diet and not gaining more than the recommended weight during your pregnancy can help prevent them.

With my daughter, I lost the 26 lbs. of pregnancy weight, plus an additional 20 lbs. within 2 weeks of delivery. I don't know if it had anything to do with the cesarean or possibly the gestational diabetes. I did have a lot of swelling with the pregnancy, so I'm sure there was quite a bit of water weight.

Breastfeeding helps you get in shape after delivery because not only does your body require about 300 calories more per day for it, but each time you nurse, it causes your uterus to contract so it shrinks back down to it's normal size faster.

c-section should not be taken lightly and a respectable doctor and hospital will not do one on the whim of the mother.

but if for some reason you have the luxury of choosing, go with vaginal. stretch marks are there and no they do not just disappear, if anything i would assume its possible to get more with them pulling the baby out. losing weight depends on the women and not how she delivered. a c-section leaves a scar and sometimes a little gut over the incision line so depending on the elasticity of the skin it may never go away.

i didn't choose to have a c-section, but i never went into labor and my baby wouldn't drop, so i had to have one. it doesn't make you loose weight faster, because you are having major abdominal surgery. you have a pouch and the only way to get rid of it is exercise, the only way to reduce stretch marks is to have a small baby and drink lots of fluid, but stretch marks are caused by horomones. you can ask for it but it is not recommended unless it is necessary.
from what i have seen it depends on your pain tolerance. i actually prefered to have the c-section, i would rather be sore in the abdomin than not be able to walk because i tore bad, but that is just me.

I am not sure if you can choose to have one. Well I guess you could if you wanted to.

I am about to have a second one done and can assure you it is not by choice. The recovery time is horrible, you are very very sore and puffy from the surgery, you can't begin to exercise for several weeks, and no it does not reduce stretch marks, it can infact make them worse by the way they stretch out the skin to deliver the baby.

My first one was done because she was breech and this one will be because well I already had one and have placenta previa.

Actually with some women it takes longer to lose the weight because you cannot get back to a regular exercise program as soon. My son was an emergency c-section due to placental abruption and being breech. I healed up faster than most women (According to my OB). I was able to return to work light duty after 4 weeks. Most insurance companies won't pay for a c-section unless it is necessary because it is major surgery.
