My little girl got 2 snails on Tues. we chose two of the most active snails in the tank at Petsmart. But when we got home one didn't move at all. When it finally did it attatched to the other snails shell. Last night it was floating in the tank. What could have happened?

Did you give it time? Mine often float. The shell itself will sink so if it was dead it should have sank.

Some snails have a period of "rest" where they just float, and others learn to skim the surface for food.

The most you can do is to give them time to adjust to the new tank, and make sure your water temperature and chemistry is appropriate for the species you have. Chances are good you may have bought mystery snails (often sold as apple snails). Here's a link to a website about them: http://www.applesnail.net/ If you bought a ramshorn or other type, here's an additional link: http://www.sydneycichlid.com/content/?page_id=119

In a tank a lot of fishes would play/eat the snails. Maybe one of the fishes hurt the snail?

i had that happen to me yesterday as well. Did you drip acclimate them to the tank? some snails are very sensitive to a new environment i spent and hour and a half drip acclimating them to my tank and woke up this morning and the snail was turned over on it back. So i guess your snail just went into shock from the environment.

mine did that too and a few days later I noticed tiny baby snails crawling around in the tank so I assume she gave birth and then died

Maybe he had the start of a sickness when you bought it and it started to kick in later. Sometimes they are not very reliable.
