Why you like Mulukhia ? or why not ?
In the history of Mulukhia what was the name of the person (ruler) who banned eating Mulukhia?

The most important question is what was his real reasons? Do you think it was something normal at that time or he was crazy?

lol ..Sabrina I know some people have this feeling for it. I eat it but it's not one of my favorite.

Rana : I read the Arabic answer before you delete it. It was really good and I wished to translate it.

Happy : Yes till now not all the reasons were mentioned and still I have one more story.
The name of the ruler was Qaraqoush as adham said and at that time they use to call any ruler of Egypt "Al Hakim beamr allah" or (the ruler by the will of God)

A thousand years ago, the mad Fatimid Caliph, al-Hakim bi Amrillah banned the public from eating Molokheya, among many other irrational things

al-Maqrizi in Itti'ath al-Hunanfa' أتعاظ الحنفا للمقريزي in 395 AH, in 7th of Muharram an order from al-Hakim bi Amrillah was read in all mosques forbidding eating molokheya, because Mu'awya ibn Abi Sufyan, the arch-enemy of the Shia used to like it!

In 418 A.H., al-Zahir allowed molokheya to be consumed again:

ps(It is said that the original name for Molokheya is Mulukeyya ملوكية meaning ("of the kings"), and that the public turned the K to the present KH.)

I like molokhia for its taste and because when I eat it I can take a good nap in the afternoon which is a blessing in the long days of summer.
The name of the ruler who banned it is Al 7akim be Amr Ellah, he is a ftimid ruler. He was not a stable ruler, but his mosque built in the shari Al mo3iz be din Ellah is worth visiting and it has been always an attraction to dedicated tourists, it has been renovated about 15 years ago.
There are many stories about the ban. I like Rana's story. It is not confirmed though. I like to add some other versions that are circuling. He thought that it was such a luxury to eat it, so much so that he thought it was suitable only for the ruling party. The original name mentioned by Rana is true, it was molokeia- related to the malik or the king- the reason for that name is its richness. There is another story that suggests that he wanted to punish the public - for a reason not known nowadays- by forbidding a dish that they liked very much. Allah yer7amoh ba2, 3aknin 3ala el nas.
If you find molokheya hard to digest you can prepare it without the ta2leya or put the ta2leya ina cotton white cloth, tie it well, put it in the molokhia a few minutes and remove it before you eat it. This way you enjoy the taste without feeling that it is hard to digest.

Is that that strange clear soup with little bits of green stuff in it.
ohhhhhhhhh that's beyond disgusting i am sorry but i simply couldn't eat it. It was the consistency that did it.slimy and gloopy, i dont want to be disgusting but it reminded me of something very unpleasant and i simply couldn't swallow it. Also the garlic taste was very very strong. i do like garlic bit this was like eating a whole bulb of garlic raw!
it is the only food i have been given in Egypt that i couldn't or wouldn't eat. everything else i have been given was delicious.
but i am really pleased to see that some egyptians feel the same way as i do.

well hello wise heart it was alhakem beamr allah el fatami,, he was a little crazy, and that was because he thought mo3aya ben abisofian loved it,,,, (he was fatimic shitta and he hated mo3awia because his role in fighting Aly Ben Taleb and hussien &hussien later,,,)

He banned lots of other things like El kobkab for women (as it produces sound) and also forbid them to go out in the daytime not to be seen by men

They said while he was going to mokatam was killed (maybe by his sister) and his donkey came back alone without him
Some people believes in his return as el mahdi el montazer

well i like Molkhia and to bad luck that the Japanese registed it as one of their official food

I think he was a little crazy and just a little hungry too. People did many things back in the day that we would call crazy these days.

It's gross. I hate it. I just eat the rice. My mom makes it and I won't eat it. No No No

It is slimy and gross. If Mul was a slime ball, then it's appropriately named after him. Yuck!
