The clown will grow larger than the black by about 6-8 inches (around 2 feet as an adult). The carapo knife fish (also called a banded or zebra knife) is probably the closest in size, but it is also a little larger (around 20 inches). There's also an African knife fish that's about 1/2 the adult size (8 inches).

Along with differences in size, there's a difference in tempermant too. The black ghost knife is shy and peaceful, and can be kept with smaller tankmates. The other three are predators and aggressive, and should be kept with larger fish (almost their own size) that they can't swallow.

no, i had the pleasure of owning both.

My clown knife was truely massive, and that still wasnt its full potiental growth.

Clown knives really need over 500 gallons, and are best for public aquariums. Mines was around 28 inches long.

Over 13 years, have had around 25 black ghost as i love them. My largest was in the clown knife tank and grew to about 25 inches.

But clown knives will grow alot larger than black ghost, for clowns try looking at 36-53 inches long.

For tankmates to the BGK, it depends on your tanksize. Some fishes knives that grow to the same size include, AFrican knives, i dont think they get really that large. If you have a small BGK a green knife is very similiar but again they might ifght if not given enough room or hiding places.
