Well according to the UN, we are not occupying Iraq.
We are in Iraq now as part of a UN authorized Multinational Force, created by UN Resolutions.
UN Security Council resolution 1546 (2004)
extended by
UN Security Council resolution 1637 (2005).
and extended again by
UN Security Council resolution 1723 (2006).

As a military term, an occupation is where a force remains in-country with the intent of holding the country (territory) and enforcing certain behaviors on the population of the country.
By standard definition, yes, what we are doing in Iraq counts as an occupation. It does not, however, count as a war (as least not for us), since we have no single opponent, and since Congress never declared war. So, it is improper (as a matter of legal terminology) to say we are at war in or with Iraq.

We are occupying Iraq. They told us to leave because they "got it from here". Of course most of their govt, army, police is corrupt and really does nothing. I would just leave but then their country would be even worse than it is now. Then the same people who are crying for us to leave would be crying about how we are letting them suffer by not helping.
People hate us for getting in their business to help. People hate us for staying out of their business and not helping. You can't win. Leaving and not helping is easier and cheaper. We could use that money to fix our own problems.

Yes, the USA is in occupation of Iraq. Republicans like to bend the truth they call it "the war on terror". Congress never declared war on Iraq. Congress also never approved the occupation of Iraq.

Yes, we are baby sitting a country whose citizens, politicians and radicals hate us. When are we going to understand that they're hate for us rests in the fact that we constatnly enter into mid east situations that we have no business and attempt to take charge. Entering Iraq was a mistake continuing to stay there is a even worse one. This admnistration should be the blame for any terror attacks against the US for the next 20 years.

Yep..
We have also recently been told to leave - and we are not.
Of course being a "Occupying Force" is a phrase americans don't want to be portrayed as - and want to believe only what they want to believe..so there is a concerted effort in the media to spin themselves out of it, but by any understanding of the phrase occupying force...america fits perfectly.
