Depends on the creation myth you believe or if you believe in science.
One of them says, that a long time ago, the Great spirit his completed earth, and said this is good. But the Great spirit thought "I need someone to look after this world of mine, while I do greater things."
So the Great spirit baked some creatures in his images to look after the lands.
He made a kiln, scooped out of the earth some clay, and formed some small figurines shaped in his image. Heput one batch in the kiln. While waiting for the clay to bake, the Great spirit fell asleep, and woke to a burning smell. Rushing to the kiln he took out the clay figures. They were burnt black.
"Ah well he said, I'll make another batch." But he didn't want to waste his efforts so he placed the burn ones in their own land saying, "You are blessed, as the first people of the earth."
The Great spirit placed the next batch in the kiln, determined to not make the same mistake, he pulled the figurines out of the kiln too soon. They were underdone, white an pasty.
"Ah well," he thought, "I'll make another batch." But again he didn't want to waste his efforts, so he placed these underbaked ones in their own land saying, "You are blessed, as people of the earth."
This time when he placed the figurines in the kiln he was very careful, and took them out at just the correct point. The figures were baked to perfection and so he placed them on the earth and said to them, "You are perfect, and blessed to look after this earth."
The Navaho creation myth suggests they came out of the ground after coming through three or four other worlds.
Some creation myths say they came out of the north from the land of Ice and Snow.
Others in South America say they came out of the Sea and that some of their people returned to the sea. Which would explain why Sweet Potatoes, native to South America, were found by travelers in New Zealand and the rest of pacific islands, long before Europeans realised they were good to eat.

your answer is true for the most part but as we live we learn that we were generally from here ,it's simple the other lands were bigger so we used to try and cross in boats it's only such as 42 miles from alaskan penninsula to the other side it's not that we came here it's when we left here to go there that we needed to know , but it was with the louis and clark expeditions some went back and some went on, thats why we knew never to fight until we knew what was there was true and well now we know it's been known since I was born in 1961 , sop I mkinow we needed to regroup and find out who still is related indian ways I know I am from that expeditions because I was born in alaska and studied all the roots to there and back , they left by chance taking almost all the young then they returned with whale meats to keep the oils and all in tacked there it was not hard to do since the air was fresher than ice ,and the sea's were clean and most of the things that were not always drifted, back and forth making tghe animals come to them was there only hopes for fur coats then ,they were the indians of northern continents from both saides of the penninsula ,therefore we have a hope alaska, the city of hope for all to do just what the indians did to salvage and save life , but they dont understasnd letting animals ru free unless they were hurt when they found them then.love Grandpa Dee, jus call me Uncle Beau

It is a myth the Europeans have created in order to justify the genocide that resulted after their finding us. If we came from someplace else, then this wasn't really *our* land then, was it? And if it wasn't our land (technically), then it was okay for the Europeans to take it from us right? Might is right, correct? It's all a crock.
There is actually more evidence leading to the conclusion that Natives came from HERE and went over the land-bridge THERE than evidence that it was vice versa. However that would mess up their whole "all life began in Africa" theory as well.

I am a Seneca Indian from westernn NY State. I grew up going to church, so I have Christian beliefs as to the origins of all races
I believe the story told about the Tower of Babel in the Book of Geneses.
The story tells how original man was all one. They became many and were of high intelligence. They thought they could build a "tower" to reach into Heaven.
To G-d, they had become too smart for their own good. These people had a common weight system, a common language, they were all one people.
G-d came down to see what was going on with these people and was greeved that He made man.
The Bible says that He destroyed the "tower" and confounded the language so people could not understand each other. After that, those who could understand , say Chinese, flocked together and migrated away until they settled in what we call China , where they have been for hundreds of years. Those who could understand Navajo flocked together and migrated until they settled in Arizona. And it went on like this until all people were scattered around the globe.
I can't remember where, but, I remember reading how science had proven that what you eat is what you become. The Asians, for example grow lots of rice, eat lots of different vegetables. After several milenia, their features and skin color change to adapt to what they eat and the climate where they live.
I believe also that when G-d made all the different people, He did it so we would all learn to look at each others as brothers and not look down at others for any reason.
Today, it looks like we have come full circle. One universal language spoken around the globe is English. One universal weight and measure system, the metric system, is fast spreading globally. And now, especially here in the US, we will eventually become one universal race, due to inter racial marrying. There will be no whites, blacks, reds or yellows, only one universal race.
I hope I didn't take up too much uf your time or bore you.

I just LOVE when people as US SKINS questions, and NON skins vomit forth their THEORIES and regurgitated internet stories and crap.
Short answer from a REAL SKIN that speaks his own language, takes part in his culture.
NO, My people have always been HERE. No Migration. Artifact that predates the ice age.
What I am NOT saying, is
did any of us get LOST and end up out there?
Maybe a band that splintered off the main tribe walked out and ended up in siberia?
ALL the theories have us COMING from elsewhere, but they NEVER seem to say we were LEAVING from here.
I question their motives, Theory is nothing more then a fancy word for OPINION.

I agree I am tired of the "Land Bridge" THEORY ....and how we are similar to other cultures.....and why is it that when something is asked about American Indians...You get a bunch of crap answers?.....again we have been here for THOUSANDS OF YEARS!!!!!!!.....Funny how we are suppose to have come from someplace else?....Yeah right....and the Mohawks been keeping their calendars for over 33,000 years.....but again Scientific theories are just what TwoCrows said Opinions that do not signify truth!.....I wish People would realize that when you have a theory such as "Bering Strait" aka Land Bridge...that is all it is.....a Theory nothing more its not the gospel truth as many seem to think!

NO....We have been on this continent for over 10,000 years, way before the "land bridge" across the Bering Sea...The "land bridge" theory is being shot full of holes as we speak. The so called experts seem to have made a wrong turn somewhere in their thinking about that one....

Looks like the answer is no. Creation stories taken into account (we are also subject to revisionist history), land bridge theories, etc. who is really going to know in which direction the land bridge used - East, West or both - this was thousands of years ago?

Those that don't but mythological BS, yes.
The cultural and anthropological similarities between North American natives and Siberians is not striking, but still obvious - ask any anthropologist or archaeologist (and I think your question belonged in the Anthropology section).
