Good luck.
I tried everything with my firstborn but wimped out for the epidural. After so long and being so tired the pain can get really really intense.
I am a strong woman, and thought labour and delivery would be a breeze. But I was wrong! You need not feel guilty for taking drugs.

Currently 38 weeks pregnant with number 2, my plan is to avoid the epidural(even though I had a good experience with it the first time around), but I'm not ruling out pain medication yet.

Normal? There isn't anything Normal about this...it is actually the one thing in life WOMAN cannot control. Don't we all easy! I don't think that is possible...but nice thought though. I think you need to start your epidural when you check in! Trust me my easiest delivery was my second child's birth which was a scheduled c-section. It was very civilized...I didn't have one contraction, I showered...I walked myself into the OR, had the c-section which we talked and laughed through, I never even felt bad on my recovery. It was actually easier than a root canal procedure that I had done a few years prior. I think more women would do scheduled c-sections if they knew there could be such a great option!!!! Trust me if you end up in the ER the good news is that your second c-section won't be as bad to go through as your first. Trust me...I've had four c-sections! I'm 5'3" and had HUGE babies. My son was 9 pounds 12 ounces and seventeen days early. That is something we cannot predict Baby weight! Don't worry the drugs work great...lower your anxiety know that we wouldn't continue having children if it was like being murdered. You'll be fine. Ask for the drugs though. The epidural is your new best friend!

ahh, so you are pregnant or still preparing? anyways, a few months ago, i have just watched a new technique for birth delivery. the new plan was called "water birth". it goes like this. you are in a small pool of water, just like a kiddie pool at homes. there is water and you are really to deliver the child into the water. that's what i have watched. one more thing is this technique gives you a safer way to deliver the child and you would feel less pain, less efforts, i think. do not worry about the child when he or she comes out. he will not be drowned because where he is is still water and that there is water inside the womb, isn't it?? am i making myself clear? so, i do not totally advise you to take this but if you want, you can search the net for more info or talk to some experts for water birth.. i hope i did help you a lot.

Ok so I had my daughter with no pain medication or epideral... It was not easy but a tip i figured out early on was... here is the story..

I was about 5 1/2 centimeters dialated when i made it to the hospital.. It was a long ride to the delivery room and my doctor wouldnt let me walk... So i had to ride the wheel chair.. while riding if i just pushed up with my arms (So my butt didn't touch the seat) it seemed to make the pain.. not so bad. Also if they will allow you to do it in the room.. it works by pushing up on the rails in the bed...

I hope this helps.. other than that... Breath... it is hard to do sometimes but breathing is important to help keep the pain down some...

I have had four kids with no pain medication. I used the Bradley method with all of them. The pain was perhaps 6 on a scale of 1-10. Besides the pain is not constant, the contractions come and go so it gives you a break. I have had leg cramps before that were MUCH worse than labor. Get the book, Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way.

I have 3 children and let me tell you, all birth is natural...stating that, let me tell you to take advantage of the medical breakthroughs we have had. My first child took 27 hours of labor after I had reached the hospital, the demeral they gave me near the end didn't help the pain, it only made me fuzzy in the head. The same with my second. I wouldn't advise the medication, but the epidural allowed me to rest until it was time to push and my mind was clear. My third was breech, so I was very happy to take the meds they offered. It is much better to take the epidural when they will give it to you than asking for one later...they don't work as well then. But like I said, the pain meds they give you, like demerol, will only make you high and the pain will still be there...I know...

well birth is going to be painful no matter what you do it. The best suggestion I can give you is go to birthing classes and learn breathing techquies. The other suggestion I can give you is that relax and go with the flow the birthing process may not be normal as you expected it to be. I know for a fact with my second daugther I had to have a c-section and wasnt expecting it.

Dont lay down for your labor...The only harder way to give birth is upside down! Stay up, walking, standing and rocking your hips back and forth...Really helps.. Also, BRADLEY method!!!! Cant stress that enough..Get the two books.. They are great..You can usually find them on ebay..

I don't think there is one. I did 3 with no meds. Just try switching positions alot. It will help with your cervix. Also walk as much as you can. It will help speed the delivery along.
