I just read the book and I'm confused about when Hermione was fixing his essay and he just says "I love you, Hermione" to her. Was he kidding or something? I don't get it. Can someone please explain it to me. Are they going out now?

Well, I know he is in love with her, and she has feelings for him too, but he wouldn't just admit it right there with Harry there too. I hope he was telling the truth though, it's about time they get together!! =)

I think it was because Ron needed help on an essay and Hermione agreed to do it for him... he said it casually, without any thought, not thinking what it implies if heard by people you know?

Ron's growing up. He's starting to explore... but I agree, Hermione is a bad place to start. He should go with Harry

Brit above has it right. It's because she was writing his essay for him. It's a brotherly love he's expressing. Though they're in for much more, I'm sure.

she was fixing his essay, it was a flippant comment that he hadn't really thought through, I say it to people all the time, it's just another way of saying thank you.

i think even Ron isn't yet sure about his feelings...
he wouldn't express them so openly if he was aware...
maybe in book 7 he can be open wuth his feelings and express them.
