Katharine is a beautiful name. I named my last child Kathryn and at pre-school she's the only one with that name. There are about 80 kids and there is more than on Haley and Isabella and Jayden.
Kate is a cool name for a woman; she can always shorten it...
Katherine, Katharine and Kathryn are all nice. The name reference, is interesting: The girl's name Katherine \k(a)-theri-ne, kath(e)-rine\ is pronounced KATH-rin, KATH-er-rin. It is of Greek origin, and its meaning is "pure". From the word "katharos". A name in use since at least the third century AD. The early Latin forms Katerina and Caterina became Katharine and Catherine. The French Cateline came into wider use during the medieval period, and variant spellings and forms were endless. It has been borne by illustrious women such as Saint Catherine of Alexandria, an early martyr; Empress Catherine the Great of Russia; and three of Henry VIII's six wives. Preference in modern times is for the K- spelling, which is closest to the original Greek versions.
I always think of Katherine Hepburn, whom I love. Above all , Katharine is a classic name and always will be. Like the meaning of the name, "pure" it is a pure and true name that will stand the test of time.

Yes. It's a very elegant name. "Common" would be Jennifer or Jane. With all the great Katharines in the history of the world, Katharine is never common. Good luck to you and sweet baby Katharine!

I think Katharine is a lovely, timeless name. What is too common to me is Madison, Emily, Isabella, etc. Not that many Katharines. Definitely name your child that, if you like it. Great choice!

Katharine is definitely NOT common.
The last Katharine I know is about 18..now I live in a small town of 4500. But Katharine is not common around here.
Go for it. If you like it, do it.

Katherine is a great name. It's strong, classic and feminine. Yes, it is rather popular, but it is not trendy. Trendy is what I would watch out for. Luckily, Katherine has been used for many years and has a great history behind it. I doubt there will be more Katherine's in her class than there are Madison's and Mackenzie's.
I prefer the spelling Catherine, as I think the C really softens it's appearance. Katherine is my next favorite. All other variants seem less classy to me, so I recommend using one of these two original spellings. Your child can still be unique and special without having a mucked up spelling.
Good luck to you!!

It's not too popular right now but a name that works well for a child or adult. I think it was more common in the 1950's. I think it is a classic name that provides many variations so your daughter can later go with a nick name that fits her like Kit, Kate, Katie, Kathy, etc.
