"Federal" means enacted by the federal govt -- Congress.

"Criminal" law means a law where a certain action is defined as a crime and subject to criminal penalties.

You have state criminal laws and federal criminal laws. You have federal criminal laws and other types of federal laws.

If Congress passes a law pursuant to their Article I Section 8 powers to make dog fighting a crime (because dogs are property, and thus subject to laws regulating commerce) that becomes a federal criminal law. Or if the law only dealt with dogs transported via interstate commerce, which again puts it within the scope of Congressional legislation.

Children are not property. So, Congress cannot pass a law making child molestation criminal -- it's not within their constitutional scope of authority (again, except for the interstate travel bit).

That's why most criminal laws are state laws -- states have unlimited (plenary) authority to enact criminal laws within their jurisdiction.

Both are criminal laws

The states have general police power, the feds can only pass laws that affect more than one state.

Dog fighing affects interstate commerce. Child molesting does not.

Child molesting is illegal in every state.

They're both criminal laws...calm down. If someone crosses a state line to molest a child it is a Federal law.
It doesn't mean child molester laws are less important.

You are confused. Federal Law and Criminal law are both considered criminal when broken. In any event, its wrong to hurt children or dogs and any one who does should be punished...A LOT!

Our government supports all that is evil. And while it may not seem that way, your question is only one good example of all things wrong with our justice system.
