Okay my computer tower and everything turns on just fine, but the monitor wont work right. It turns on but the screen just stays black. The only time it lights up is when i turn the computer off, then the screen goes white for a second. When i turn the tower and stuff on the monitor's light goes green but thats all. what should i do? I really dont want to have to buy another monitor...this is my second one in a little over a year and my computer is only 5 years old!

What happens if you unplug the video cable from the system? Most monitors will display a test pattern of some sort, if the monitor comes on with a "Check video cable" message then it is probably O.K. and you have a system problem.

If the monitor is O.K. what does your system sound like when it comes on? Having the fans and drives spin up just means that the power supply is providing them power. After you turn the system on do you hear the hard drives 'chatter'? If so, then that is Windows going though it's startup routine, and the problem is either your video card or the monitor. If you do not hear that 'chatter' then there is something dead on your system that is stopping it from booting.

Check cables are tightly fastened.

Check graphics card is not looslely installed.

I would get you to reinstall drivers but that would be stupid since you cannot see anything.

Try another monitor... so you can narrow down the problem

1, make sure all WIRES are tightened (!!!! remove all electrical wires first, and use rubber/wood slipper if you have to be safe)
2, It might be theres some error with your Display drivers or something ..

3, did you monitor work before?Did you install anything new? maybe the program caused the problem

hook another monitor up and see if the same thing happens. if it does its the graphics card and not the monitor.
