an OS means an Operating System. It is the heart of all softwares installed unto a computer system. the OS exists to share the hardware resources to the various programs.
It deciplines any program that misbehaves. and makes sure that all runs well on a computer system.
It monitors the hardware resources and knows when they are getting used up.
It cleans the memory after programs have finished using it. and it practically is the Lord of every computer software.
and it cant be on an external harddrive. how ever it can keep track of all external devices and load them and their files when they are needed. so with a 6GB hard drive you can keep the OS on the internal hard drive and strore your videos and music and non essential system stuff like installed programs on the external hard drive. it will all work quite perfectly well. with no or little hitches.
i use an 80Gb internal hard drive and i have five 500Gb external harddrives that contain my movies and music and other stuff....
so why not. external storage space in unlimited..

OS, stands for opperating system (windows Xp etc...)
yes it would be okay, but personally I would get a bigger and better hard drive (internally) as 6GB isn't alot and would barely fit a windows OS on it.
but external hard drives are great for photo's and music, but get an internal one if you can as yours is a bit small at the moment (it would also be cheaper for an internal one)
hope this helps
