I have about 10 remote sites with cable modems and I need to have them connected to a main site with a cisco ASA 5505. I could use the asa 5505 for all the sites but that would be expensive

5505s at each site would make sense as you need a firewall anyway. You may need to upgrade the licensing on the central site as there is a 2 peer limit in the basic license.

You could use an open source product such as IPCop http://www.ipcop.org to set up site-to-site tunnels and firewall the sites but that will require a spare PC at each locale and may not be as reliable as the Cisco devices in the long run.

Consider the cost of NOT having the connectivity, not just the cost of providing it securely.

Ignore the response below. A single Cisco 3000 would cost more than 5505s at each site.

Your best bet would be to ask a Cisco rep.. this is what they are trained for..

check out the 3000 series though... it is included with the ASA5500.. I couldn't find one included with the 5505 and you would need to make sure that they are used together.. good luck..
