am awake in the night (often happens), I can easily go and see if any of my friends in different time zones are online to chat on messenger. But it's so loud it keeps me awake and I have to turn it off before going to bed. Any suggestions?

Try putting it in sleep mode...it will still be on but the motor should slow down...at least thats what mine does.

Time to open it up and clean it out. Do you have pets? Do you smoke? Listen to the the tower and try to locate were the sound is coming from. Usually the cooling fan or cpu fan is full of dust, hair or tobacco residue. Open case and take a soft small paint brush and loss en debris. Let it all fall to bottom of your computer tower and then vacuum clean. If fans are dirty use a Q-tip and alcohol and clean very carefully.
I'll bet you'll be surprised at the dirt you get out with this procedure.
This should quiet that box down...Good luck.

omg! hun! dont do tht! u shouldn't leave ur computer on like tht it would burn out the power pack, plus not forgeting the enviornment!
But if u wanna get rid of the sound get a new processor/powerpack.

i don't know why it makes noise i am wondering and not a good person to ask but i thought i would let you know its not right. mine is very quiet. i know when i am sleeping i put it to sleep also and that is why i don't have problems with it. so not sure why

I have an HP and it has a loud humm to it.. probably the fan.
