My daughter is 11 months old, she has a well baby check in august. When she was born she had some abdominal swelling so they checked her and saw a dark spot in her intestines. they tranfered her to st.vincent nicu to check her closer. After she got there they checked her and diddnt see what our hospital saw, so she stayed a few days and they sent her home. She seemed to be fine. When she started eating baby foods she seemed to get a huge appetite. she wanted to eat ALL the time. She pooped all the time too (like 4-8 times a day) she got sick and her appetite waned. afterwards she ate what i feel is a normal amount and stoped pooping as much. then she got some fresh strawberries about 2 weeks ago and wound up with hives for4 days. then on monday she started throwing up her formula(the same thing shes been on since 2 months old) she has had watery diareah ever since.

more cont....

for about 4 months she has been waking up in the middle of the night screaming for hours.even when she seems fine in the day. the doctor said she got spoiled and that because she's the youngest of 4, it was her way of getting mom and dad to herself. checked her ears just in case of ear infection. none found. now they won't do anything untill she has a well baby visit a month from now! I have never heard of anything like this before. I am stumped and need to find out whats wrong with her.
has anyone ever heard of anything like this before? coping without sleep at night would be a lot easier if i kn ew why she was doing this. and maybe if i found something that i had a name for, the doctor would look into it sooner...
i apreciate any helpful answers....telling me she's spoiled is not what i'm looking for, because i know there is something more than that

while these answers would be helpful if i was asking about the strawberries, i'm not. the strawberries was 2 weeks ago or better, its jut one part of the whole picture please coment on all of my question... there was a week and a half between the end of the hives and the start of diareah... i'm wondering if her alergy to strawberries could have set off a proneness to allergys? i don't know but that would be the only link between the strawberries and the diareah...
i'm not worried about the srawberries any more, i just included all of her problems from birth - now, in case all things put together sounded familiar to something someone has experienced or read about...this is not a here and now problem...this has been escelating to the current situation for months.

THANKS TO ALL FOR INPUT, FINALY GOT THE DOC TO ORDER TEST ON HER STOOL AND AN APPOINTMENT MONDAY MORNING...IT'S DEFFINITLY A START IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION...I REMINDED HER ABOUT WHEN SHE WAS BORN AND SHE SEEMED TO CHANGE HER TONE OF IT. i DON'T WANT EVERYONE TO THINK THIS IS A BAD DOC. IN FACT SHE WAS THE BEST IN TOWN WHEN I FIRST STARTED USING HER AS MY KIDS PEDIATRITION...AND EVERYONE ELSE USES HER TOO...SHE'S JUST TOO BUSY AND I THINK THAT IS THE WORST THING A DOC CAN BE THESE DAYS. BUT GOOD LUCK FINDING ONE THATS NOT.

There is a disorder in newborns and small children called Intussusception. It's much more common in boys than girls by 3:1 ratio, though. I think you should either find another doctor ASAP, or take her to emergency when she wakes in the middle of the night screaming. Did the current doctor even palpate the child's stomach at the last exam, or order any tests? If not, find a new doc.

A child that wakes in the middle of the night screaming is usually due to one of two things: (1) nightmares and night terrors, in which crying is usually resolved within a few minutes of picking up the baby and comforting her or (2) she is in pain.

She also could have developed an allergy to her formula. 11 months is not too early to wean her. Or try a soy-based formula if you must continue the bottle. It may be lactose intolerance.

With the hives she experienced, it sounds like she has an allergy to strawberries. To help her diarrhea, begin a brat diet, 4-6 ounces of fluid, not formula, every 20-30 minutes (consistently) and only fluids, this will give her bowels a chance to rest. Her BM's should firm up and once they do, slowly reintroduce her formula and solid foods, do this in moderation and keep a check on her. If she starts to show signs of dehydration, get her to the ER, bypass her doctor altogether.

Signs of dehydration:
dry mouth, sunken eyes, reluctance to drink, inability to pass urine or cry tears, high fever, lethargy, confusion, cold hands and feet, rapid and weak pulse, rapid breathing.

What were the doctor's recommendations for how to take care of her? Did they mention this might be the super flu? If so, she needs to rest and get a lot of clear fluids in her. I don't mean constantly.......just try to let her know she needs to be drinking more water if she wants to get better. The clear fluids they told us were, water, 7up, lemonade. At her age you may even try Pedialite (sp). Also, clean and sterilize everything and don't feed her any peanut butter. If she is still not getting better by tomorrow, take her to the emergency room or to another doctor. Hope she heals soon.

Go to a different doctor or a children's hospital ASAP. This may be from when she was born and is just now showing symptoms.

shes quite possibly allergic to strawberries. if shes vomiting her formula, give her water instead. since she has diarroea (sp) she needs plenty of fluids. this is because the diarroea is causing her to lose water. if this continues 2 days, take her to the doctor or the emergency department

Either your doctor is right (probably), or he is mistaken. One way to find out. Get a second opinion. What else?

if your baby has had diarrhea for that long, you need to get her to the emergency room.... ASAP!! she could end up with metabolic acidosis if she looses to much base...they need to get her electrolytes back in balance...I would also advise getting another doctor.
