My uncle [through marriage] is supposedly in Iraq...He was once in the Air Force but was thrown out because of something terrible he did...So he went to Missouri (He's orgininally from Louisiana) and joined the Army Reserve and became a translator in a little over 2 months! Now thats sort of fishy he learned a whole new language in 2 months? So anyway he went back to his home state and was sent to Iraq in like November 2006...He sends his family emails all the time, pictures, he even called on his cell phone regularly, AND wires money from his account to his wife's account for bills...How can this be possible if he's a translator in the middle of a war?? Do all soldiers get to email their family like 2-3 times a week? And is there an ATM and computer there or something..? About 2 wks ago he was promoted to a Major in less than a year can that happen? Does it really sound like he's in Iraq? He is ver sneaky and my aunt is very ditsy I just want to know can this possible?

Ok so if all this is true why do I hear parents who have lost kids over there talk about letters that they've written and how they haven't talked to them in a long time? He was first in Kuwait for like 3 months then moved to Iraq...

Your uncle is lying about his rank and duty with the Army. If he was dishonorably discharged from the Air Force, he wouldn't be able to enlist in the Army, Navy, or even Marine Corps. To learn a new language can take some time, especially to become a translator-but there is a school in California that teaches men and women languages like Arabic, Spanish, German, etc. etc. in less that 6 months, but to become a Major in the Army, you have to be in for at least 10 years.

There are computers in Iraq, but time is used at the minimum. Online banking allows for easy transfers, so that is probably how your uncle is wiring money to your aunt's bank accounts to be able to pay bills.

If I were you, I wouldn't trust your unlce.

hi,
in my opinion the only way thats possible is if he was an agent. learning a whole new language in two months and otherwise unexplainable promotions usually are the characteristics of army intelligence officers or the fifth block.
its there but no one knows it is. sometimes there are no documents linking these individuals to any gov. agency his file will probably say ex-military . also the armed forces are not stupid people he was kicked out and joined again......? please!!!!!! he was just transferred and the expulsion was probably a cover. OR.... he lives down the road and is making all this up because he is ashamed that he F***ed up his military career. there is absolutely no way that he dose "something terrible" and is recruited again.

the answer is in the bank account u must check to see where the money comes from and more probably the URL address of his emails. for the money in fact he can use e- transfer from the employer to his account and then to urs from any where on the planet. check to cofirm if he is indeed in military first thats ur first step.

Your aunt can contact the Red Cross with his name and serial number. They will find out very quickly if he is in the service, and if so, where he is stationed.

I don't know about today, but during Vietnam the US Army language school ran about 8-9 months.

yeah he probably is, translator is a desk job, they have top of the line computer arrays, ask him where he is stationed exactly so you can send a care package, if he won't tell you or comes up with some bogus, i get moved around a lot excuse, then you know he's lying
