Before you can go for a lesson (I'm assuming rules are the same as in the UK) you will need a provisional license. I think if you look at the DLVA website it will be able to help you. Otherwise, you could ring a local driving school (look in your paper or at the Yellow Pages - online is www.yell.com) and ask them. Good luck!

I agree the first step is definitely to get a provisional licence. You need to have one in order to have driving lessons with an instructor, and you can't be on the road without one. However, while you're waiting for it to arrive, it would be a good idea to have a read of the highway code, and to learn what some of the common road signs mean - you can do this as a passenger.
Something else you can do as a passenger is look at what other people are doing on the roads, for example at junctions and roundabouts, so you get a feel for where you need to be looking and what to look for before you actually get out there - it'll help with the Hazard Perception.

You need to apply for a provisional licence from the DVLNI.
See http://www.dvlni.gov.uk/drivers/apply_provisional.htm for details of how to do this.
You will then need to get lessons - contact a local driving school/instructor (ask friends / relatives for recommendations). Note that it is illegal for anyone who is not a qualified driving instructor to receive payment for driving lessons. Try to get practise with a family member or friend between lessons (this must be someone who is over 21, has a current full driving licence and has held it for the past 3 years, and make sure you are insured to drive the car).
You will need to complete a driving theory test (book it at http://www.dvtani.gov.uk/onlinebooking/drivingtheorytest.asp ) and then a practical driving test (book it at http://www.dvtani.gov.uk/onlinebooking/drivertest.asp ) when you are ready. Your instructor will know when you are ready, and can advise you on the application procedures.

If its the same as the UK you need to send for your provisional licence you can get the form from a post office or fill it in online www.dsa.gov.uk wait for it to arrive then sort out lessons ask around for a good instructor. When your instructor thinks you are ready then you will take your test if you pass you can get a car and start to drive alone.

You need to buy a copy of the Highway code and study it, and a driving licence. You also need to have lessons, from a good recognised driving instruction school like the B.S.M, don't just go for the cheapest instructor. You will also need a vehicle.
