i have a dvd burner in my laptop, can i burn cd's or no?

usually yes.
99.99999% of dvd burners are also cd burners

Yes!! A DVD burner is backward-compatible with CD-R's!!

Yes definitly you can burn cd's as well. please check your system had cd burning software. as a example Nero Burning rom , cd clone, Like that . If you have windows XP, esially you can burn normal data cd's and everything. when you want to burn some images, first you go to target place. after that you can find the upper corner in the left hand side of target window " write these files to cd" so esially you can do it.
