I'm getting a little tired about all the negative things being said about America, all countries have their bad sides, nobody is perfect, so I want to know some POSITIVE things that America has given to the world, please.

Freedom...and open arms! By the way, I feel exactly the same. I'm truly sick of hearing all about our "misgivings" and to beat all, coming from many of our own citizens! This country has been good to the world. I was a true Bush believer, and I can't say I don't like him, but I feel he has made some major mistakes in where he is leading our country, but at the same time we didn't bring those terrorists here and welcome them into our country to kill so many innocent people. Something had to be done, I just feel like it was all done incorrectly.
As for "Holly of NZ" 's comment on other free places in the world, who here stated that the USA was the only free country in the world? And how has the US contributed to freedom? One answer would be that anti-US people like yourself can come into this country freely, regardless of your opinions.

Every red-blooded male knows that a bit of crumpet makes the world go round and that a nice cup of tea is the solution to all life's ills. You're just gonna have to try harder, Buk. So far, Britannia Rules!

I would say that the most positive contribution to the world so far is the fact that we stepped in and were, to my knowledge, the main player for the Allies in stopping Hitler.

But I'm from the United States, so maybe I've been taught propaganda.

Any feedback from other countries?

Wow some of these answers are seriously jaded. People seem to be confused. "America" (presuming that is referring to the USA) and "The World" aren't actually the same thing, surprisingly enough.

Star, Americans abolished slavery in their own country. They didn't abolish it in any other country, in fact, America was one of the last countries to abolish slavery.

As for something positive America has contributed to the world, I'd have to think about that one. In saying this, I'd have to think about it for my own country too.

I mean you can't really think big, because big decisions made by countries and their leaders, about the world, are usually done in unison with other countries.

Little things like McDonald's (okay, not so little) and air conditioning (not sure about that one, considering the majority of car manufacturing and design is done outside of America) are more what people should be thinking about.

You'd think giving aid would be the most positive contribution to the world, but really, so little aid is given (all countries) it's shocking to think that these rich western countries can't give more. It's pathetic, and hardly positive.

In answer to your question, I'll think personally, because America has made different contribution to different individuals. It's about how America affects you.

For me, great books, like Catch-22, inspire me to read more. Hollywood films entertain me. TV- Greys, Men in Trees, Lost, Deseperate Housewives. For me, America has been a great source of entertainment, and given me a lot of laughs- I laugh with and at America, never failing.

EDIT: Freedom. From an outsider's point of view, some Americans seem to think they invented Freedom. There was lots of 'Free' places in the world before America came along... How has America contributed freedom? I actaully do want to know...

A model market econemy, kicking the crap out of the Nazis and Imperial Japan, starring the Soviets down until their whole system folded, the internet, baseball, the biggest piece and highest calibur of entertainment media...we could go on all day. How quickly the world forgets just what America has done. It's alright though, even if they don't admit it, everyone copies America. Travel anywhere in the world - trickle down culture, baby. Trickle down culture.

Penicillin and likely lots of other medicines. (Although Penicillin was invented by the English it would not have been produced if it was not for the Americans).

To the answer above me most of the best rock is English E.g Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple.

Fundies... god I miss those things. WAIT! Not fundies as in fundementalists... I mean fundies as in the underware for two that were sold in novelty shops in the 80's.
