i'm 15 years old by the way..

i have no brothers whatsoever..

i feel really awkward if it's just the two of us..but i know he cares..

it just saddens me that we aren't that close as we were when i was a kid..

i learned from a survey is that a daughter is closer to the father and the son to the mother..

i felt really sad when he said those things to my mom..

i think you are looking at this the wrong way round, as an only child, i was close to my daddy too, Cant you see the fact he recognises how times have changed that he knows whats missing? he misses it too, he was telling our mother all the same things YOU are telling us, at 15 you are neither a child nor an adult, he is having a hard time assessing with how to be with you, you are no longer his little girl on the outside, and he may fear YOU yourself think you are too big for hugs and holding hands-in my eyes you are NEVER too big, lol! but parents sometimes dont have all the answers, we arent always right you know, and sometimes, instead of doing the wrong thing, we dont do anything. i think the fact your dad talks about it tells you all you need to know, and if i were you??? next time you see him, regardless of whether he is just in the next room, i'd give him a hug, and a peck on the cheek, i bet it makes his day! good luck to you

I think it's REALLY awkward for dads to have a teenage daughter... the whole puberty thing, and essentially you're a woman, but his daughter. So it might be hard for him to relate to you since you're not a kid anymore. And as far as physical affection, he may just not be sure of what's appropriate / inappropriate.

Maybe you could make more of an effort to spend time with him - go out and do stuff together, just the two of you? You could ask him to take you somewhere, just to show him that you do want to spend time with him.

It won't affect you if you don't do the hugs and stuff--he is probably just as at odds about the relationship as you are. Daddy's little girl is growing up and he sees you going away soon. Talk and tell himhow your day went--ask about his. Ask if he would like a coffee--then share a few moments. You are what age??? Talk and get caught up--you aren't a kid anymore--smile and be nice. Do this a few minutes a day and you two will get on fine. good luck

I think that many fathers are like this. I don't know if it is the fear of having to let their daughter go in the end that is bothering them, or if they just relate to sons better. Why don't you go and give him a hug. Whats the worst that can happen?

No you are going to be fine, I know it must feel difficult to have a dad who drinks but you are in control of your own life, you need to do the best for your future. good luck

No, it's perfectly great. There's nothing wrong with that.

And how old are you?

It's just because you're growing up.

Peace Out!
