The correlation between making large donations to the Labour Party and receiving an honour is extraordinary. Statistical analysis shows that 58.54% of all donors giving more than £50,000 to the Labour Party receive an honour. This compares to just 0.035% of non-donors. Large Labour Party donors are 1,657 times more likely to receive an honour than a non-donor and 6,969 times more likely to receive a peerage. It is almost impossible to avoid the conclusion that the Labour Party has been selling honours, including places in the House of Lords. An analysis of all donations over £50,000 since 2001 reveals that Honour certainly has its price. We publish below the average amount donated by the recipients of various honours – an “Honours Price List”. Those receiving a Peerage have given £1.07 million on average, and a Knighthood £747,000...

Surprised?

Nothing was more certain.

Just like the cancelation of the enquiry into cash for arms.

Personally, I think the honours system is abused buy the Tories and Labour.

I do not think that the labour party have done anything 'wrong' legally, but I do think that they, and the Tories are 'selling' peerages. Not in a legal sense, but in a sense that if you make a donation (or a loan), you are more likely to get a peerage.

The weird thing is that I actually think that this investigation went after the wrong line of enquiry.

If I remember correctly, honours were allegedly for sale for those business men who sponsored city academies. Personally, I see little wrong with that, as they are being rewarded for helping the education of children, a worthy cause.

What I do not like, is what both Labour and the Tories did, which was to allow those who loaned the party money (or made a donation) to get a peerage. That smacks of sleaze. (i.e. the money given or loaned is only benefitting the party)

And a decision not to press charges does not mean that the two main parties are without any guilt at all, it just means that it is felt that there is not enough evidence to secure a conviction.

It seems like it has been a VERY long time since anyone ion the establishment took the rap for something. Profumo was over 40 years ago - can't think of one since.

You are just left wondering whether quiet words are had in the right ears. Surely it doesn't take 16 months to come up with no evidence?

Oh, yes, very much so! I really did expect that after having poured so much taxpayers money in, the CPS would bring charges against a senior political figure who got away with Iraq, for heavens sake.

All this sarcasm makes me quite tired.

It's good to see that even under new leadership New Labour carry on with the cover ups, spin and sleaze.

At least their reassuringly consistent on these issues!!

I'm sure it was worth all the tax payers money and police time to be assured that no one was at fault at all!

Usual whitewash. I'm pleased to live in Australia now where such things never happen (not peerages anyway!)
